Croatia has officially been named the number one destination in Europe after over a million travelers from around the world voted in a public poll. Croatian tourism officials received the prestigious award at ITB Berlin, one of the largest tourism fairs in the world.
In the competition for the most desirable European destination, Croatia received the highest number of votes, leaving Spain in second place, Austria in third, Italy in fourth, and Greece in fifth.
"A Must-Visit Destination"
"This victory further solidifies Croatia as a must-visit destination. Known for its coastline, historic cities, rich culture, Mediterranean cuisine, excellent wines, truffles, and adventure tourism," reported The New York Post.
At ITB Berlin, Croatia was promoted through its culture, gastronomy, and sustainable tourism, with visitors enjoying wine and cheese tastings, presentations, and various attractions.
German Tourists Love Croatia
Croatia is among the top ten most desirable destinations for German tourists, and it is one of the top three destinations in Bavaria. A strong tourist pre-season is expected, though caution is advised due to the price sensitivity of German travelers. At the ITB Berlin fair, it was highlighted that Croatia offers an excellent price-to-quality ratio, which is key to attracting visitors during uncertain economic times.
Brian Kelly, founder of the popular travel site The Points Guy, recently told The New York Post that Croatia will be the destination of the year.
"Croatia has beautiful beaches, islands known for crazy parties, and all of this is offered at much lower prices compared to other European destinations. It’s definitely the most sought-after place," said Kelly.
