Egypt and Qatar said on Monday they were continuing efforts to bring Israel and Hamas closer and overcome differences to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, based on a proposal by US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
In a joint statement carried by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two countries called on all parties to support the mediator's efforts to end the war, Reuters reported.
Witkoff said earlier in the day that Hamas's response to his proposal for a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip was "completely unacceptable" and a step backwards.
