Russian ballistic missiles and drones were fired at Kiev from multiple directions early on Friday, setting fires in apartment buildings in different parts of the city. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said four people had been killed in the attacks.
According to nova.rs, Timur Tkachenko, the head of the city's military administration, said Russian drones were approaching the city in waves and that air defense units were trying to repel them. He later warned of the risk of ballistic missiles, N1 reports.
Witnesses told Reuters of a series of explosions and at least one large fire at the site of one of the drones.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko also reported fires in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts.
Air defenses have been activated in the Obolon district, Klitschko said early this morning via Telegram.
“The attack on the capital continues. Stay in shelters!” the mayor said.
Tkachenko said drones hit the upper floors of a high-rise apartment building and caused a fire in the Darnytskyi district on the eastern side of the city, where he said power outages were possible. He said a fire had also broken out in an apartment building in the western district.
