Vujović: The hearing of Đuranović continued the dangerous trend of intimidation of journalists in Montenegro

AUTHOR M.J.
The hearing of Draško Đuranović, editor-in-chief of Pobjeda, yesterday, in the premises of the Podgorica police, continued the dangerous trend of intimidation of journalists in Montenegro, assessed the executive secretary of the Media Council for Self-Regulation, Ranko Vujović.
From that council, they most strongly condemned - the latest pressures on Pobjeda and its editor-in-chief - and added that they believe it is high time for the international community to pay attention to these dangerous trends in Montenegro, which not only threaten free journalism, but also undermine some fundamental democratic values of this society.
While in previous years, Vujović added, threats and insults came mainly through social networks, now we have a situation where state institutions, such as the police and the prosecutor's office, are used to put pressure on journalists and the media.
These organized actions are primarily aimed at limiting media freedom and discouraging any critical journalism. It is paradoxical that with the acceleration of European integration, the number of attacks on journalists and the media is also increasing, and the pressures are becoming more and more diverse: from burning dolls to police hearings and finally the trial in the case of Professor Boban Batrićević - emphasized Vujović.
