The Berane police have detained five people in connection with the attack on photojournalists Boris Pejović and Stevo Vasiljević of Vijesti and Pobjeda. D.F. from Bjelo Polje was arrested on suspicion of committing the crime of endangering security, while one person is still being sought, the Police Directorate announced.
"Police officers from the Berane Security Department detained five people in relation to whom they are establishing all the facts related to the attack on the two journalists, of whom D.F., born in Bijelo Polje and residing in Podgorica, was deprived of liberty by order of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Berane, on suspicion of committing the crime of endangering security," the statement said.
At the same time, work is underway to identify all participants who in any way participated in the attack on journalists and preventing them from carrying out their journalistic duties, the police said.
"In continuation of further activities with other organizational units, the police are working on the identification of other persons, while an intensive search is underway for one person whose identity has been established," the statement states.
Namely, during the removal of the monument to Pavle Đurišić in Gornji Zaostr near Berane, several dozen people who attended the event attacked photojournalists from Vijesti and Pobjeda, Boris Pejović and Stevo Vasiljević.
"Officers of the Police Administration - Regional Security Center "North" are taking urgent measures and actions to identify, locate and prosecute the persons who attacked journalists S.V. and B.P. Statements are being taken from the injured journalists, other journalists who were at the scene, and witnesses," the statement states.
The police are also taking other activities to establish all the facts in this event, in coordination with the competent Prosecutor's Office.
"The Police Directorate strongly condemns the attack on journalists. At the same time, we inform the public that if it is determined that there were any shortcomings in the work of police officers, legally prescribed measures and actions will be applied against them, without exception," the police stated.
The Police Directorate will, after the first measures and actions taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident, inform the public about the results in a timely manner.
