"Lions" European bronze in Podgorica

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

After 15 years and the world bronze of junior women in South Korea, Montenegro has a medal from a major handball competition for younger categories - the cadets defeated Spain 22:20 in the bronze match at the European Championship in Podgorica!

A fantastic success for the team of Miloš Perović and Bobana Krstović, who finished the championship with five wins and two losses. Among these triumphs are two over the superpowers - France in the quarterfinals and today's over Spain, which was costing medals by duels with Balkan teams because it lost to Croatia in the semifinals.

The start of the match in the "Bemax Arena" was unusual, considering that our national team scored the first goal in the sixth minute, and the Spanish team only in the ninth minute to reduce the score to 2:1.

There weren't many goals until the end of the half, there were a lot of mistakes, but the "fury" still managed to break away in the finish - with a 3:0 run in the finish, they gained an 11:8 advantage at the end of the first 30 minutes.

The "Lavice" continued to "tighten" their defense again, the attack also worked, and in three minutes they reached a tie (11:11), only to turn things around in the 45th minute with a goal by Martina Knežević into an empty net, and then with the mastery of Maša Ulićević they reached "plus 2" in the 47th minute.

At 16:17, Knežević did not use the seven-meter shot (a failed lob attempt), but Ivana Savić restored the two-goal advantage.

However, the offensive solutions ran out, and the Spanish women tied the score at 18:18 in the 53rd minute, forcing coach Miloš Perović to call a timeout. Andrea Dragnić scored immediately after that, but Spain responded with two. Jovanović equalized two and a half minutes before the end, earning an exclusion, and after a wasted attack, the visiting captain Anđelina Orbović scored at 21:20, forcing another suspension for the Spanish women. The "Fury" then committed a foul in attack and the victory was within reach for the "Lionesses" – Andrea Jovanović's lob with 10 seconds left in the match made it an unattainable 22:20.
