The Montenegrin women's handball team defeated the Romanian selection in Debrecen 27:25 (16:12), in the second round match of Group B of the European Championship in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland.
This is the second triumph of the Montenegrin handball team at the championship, after they celebrated against Serbia 24:18 at the start.
The team of coach Suzana Lazović justified the expectations, repeated a good performance in defense, while there were mistakes in the attack, but good enough for a new triumph.
The Montenegrins opened the match excellently and with a series of 5:0 took the lead 7:2 in the seventh, and 8:3 in the eighth minute. The Romanians reacted and scored six consecutive goals for the turnaround and the first and only lead (9:8) in the 15th minute.
The lead of the rivals set off an alarm in the Montenegrin team, which reacted quickly and scored six consecutive goals to reach a 14:9 advantage in the 22nd minute.
The difference at halftime was four (16:12), and in the following period it was five goals several times. Romania only reduced the deficit to two goals in the final minutes, but it could not do more than that.
The most efficient player in the winning team was Dijana Mugoša with eight, Matea Pletikosić and Đurđina Jauković scored four each, and Tatjana Brnović scored one goal less. In the Romanian team, Marijana Seraficeanu was the best with six goals.
In the second match of that group, at 8:30 PM, the Czech Republic and Serbia will meet, and if Serbia triumphs, our national team will officially advance to the Main Round.
Montenegro will play the Czech Republic in the last round, on Tuesday at 8:30 PM.
