The senior volleyball teams of Montenegro in the men's and women's competition will participate in the CEV Golden European League for the first time, determined based on the CEV ranking of the registered selections, the Volleyball Federation announced.
It is stated that, as in the last season, the competition in the Golden League will take place according to the "Swiss" system in three tournaments, and each selection will be the host once.
Montenegro will organize the first women's volleyball tournament and the second men's volleyball tournament, and the start of the Golden League will be the first action for both coaches, Jovo Caković and Ivica Jevtić.
The seniors will open the competition at a tournament in Romania, where they will play the host on June 6, 2025, and then Latvia a day later.
The tournament will be played in Montenegro from June 13 to 15, when during the second weekend, Montenegrin volleyball players will play against the Czech Republic (June 13) and Finland two days later.
The third weekend will be played in North Macedonia, and the Montenegrin seniors will have Israel as their rivals on June 21 and North Macedonia on June 22.
The final volleyball tournament is planned for the period from July 4 to 6.
The volleyball players participated in the European League twice - in 2013 and 2014, and in the second appearance won gold, defeating Greece in the final.
Then, in the next three years, they played in the World League.
The women's national team of Montenegro will open its participation in the Golden League at home, at the tournament from May 30 to June 1, 2025.
The first rival of the Montenegrin volleyball players will be Spain, on May 30, then Ukraine after two days.
The tournament will be hosted on the second weekend by Slovakia, who will be the rival of the Montenegrin team on June 8, and the day before they will meet with Azerbaijan.
The tournament will be played in Hungary from June 13 to 15, where Montenegro will play the host on the first day of the tournament.
A day later, they will meet with a well-known rival, the Portuguese team.
The final tournament for women's volleyball is scheduled for June 27 to 29, 2025.
The women's volleyball team will play in the Golden League for the first time, after good performances in the Silver League in the previous two seasons - in 2023 they played in the final tournament for the first time, and Montenegro had representatives in the European League in both 2016 and 2017.
In both competitions, according to the "Swiss" system, a common table will be formed on the basis of which the four most successful selections will earn a place in the fight for medals, unless the selection of the host of the final tournament is not among the best four national teams. The venue of the final weekend will be determined later.
