Republican burns Quran, vows to end Islam in Texas

Republican candidate for US Congress from Texas Valentina Gomez has sparked outrage after posting a video of herself burning a Quran.

The video was shared with the caption "I will end Islam in Texas, so help me God." The video was widely condemned by Muslim advocacy groups, political leaders and internet users.

Gomez was born in Colombia and moved to the US in 2009. She ran for Missouri Secretary of State last year and finished sixth among Republican candidates with 7.4 percent of the vote.
