Trump Declares “End of Gaza War,” Opens Door to New Talks With Iran

JERUSALEM, October 13, 2025 — Former U.S. President Donald Trump declared the “end of war” in Gaza on Monday, announcing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas while signaling potential talks with Iran in what he called “a new era for peace in the Middle East.”

Speaking before Israel’s Knesset, Trump hailed the ceasefire as “the conclusion of a painful chapter” and urged regional leaders to “turn victory into stability.” The event marked the first address by a former American president to Israel’s parliament since 1995.

“This is not just an end to fighting,” Trump said. “It’s the beginning of rebuilding — hearts, homes, and hope.”

Ceasefire Details

Under the agreement, Hamas has been granted limited authority to oversee internal security operations in Gaza under international supervision. Israeli officials confirmed the deal includes a disarmament timeline and humanitarian aid provisions for rebuilding efforts.

Trump described the plan as “a practical path to peace” that would allow Gaza to stabilize while ensuring Israeli security. The truce follows months of escalating violence that left thousands displaced and infrastructure devastated.

Iran Overture

In his speech, Trump also extended an olive branch to Tehran, saying the United States was “ready for a fair deal when Iran is ready for peace.” The statement marks a surprising diplomatic shift after years of strained relations and nuclear tensions.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry responded cautiously, saying it is “open to balanced dialogue” but awaits formal communication from Washington.

Political Reaction

Trump’s unexpected return to high-level diplomacy has drawn mixed reactions. While some critics questioned his motives, both Israeli and American officials acknowledged the deal as a rare moment of unity in an otherwise volatile region.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman called the development “a milestone moment that few thought possible.”

Challenges Ahead

Despite the optimism, major challenges remain. Security experts warn that lasting peace will depend on Hamas disarmament, Israel’s long-term security guarantees, and international coordination on Gaza reconstruction.

Trump is expected to attend a regional peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, later this week, joined by leaders from over two dozen nations.

“History will judge this moment not by words, but by whether peace truly holds,” said one European diplomat present at the event.
