Deadly Blaze Sweeps Through Indian Nightclub, Leaving Dozens Dead

A late-night fire tore through a crowded nightclub in India, killing at least 25 people, including several foreign tourists, and prompting urgent questions about safety standards at entertainment venues.

The blaze erupted during a weekend event when the club was packed with visitors. Witnesses reported seeing flames spread rapidly through the building, leaving little time for people inside to escape. Thick smoke filled the venue within moments, causing chaos as patrons tried to reach exits that some described as poorly marked and overcrowded.

Local emergency crews arrived quickly but faced difficulties controlling the fire due to the structure’s flammable interior materials and narrow access points. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before finally bringing the blaze under control.

Authorities confirmed that among the dead were several tourists who had been visiting the city—a popular destination known for nightlife and cultural festivals. Many of the bodies were recovered near the entrance, suggesting a rush to flee as conditions worsened.

Dozens more were injured, some critically, and have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials warned that the death toll could rise as rescue workers continue to search the charred remains of the building.

Early investigations point to a possible electrical fault, though officials say they are exploring all potential causes. The government has announced an inquiry into whether the club complied with fire safety rules, including occupancy limits, emergency exits, and fire suppression equipment.

The tragedy has sparked nationwide outrage, with critics arguing that lax enforcement of safety regulations has repeatedly put the public at risk. Local leaders have promised immediate inspections of similar venues to prevent another catastrophe.

Families of victims gathered near the site through the night, many still waiting for information about missing relatives as authorities work to identify the deceased.

The fire marks one of the deadliest nightclub disasters in the country in recent years, casting a shadow over a city known for entertainment and tourism.
