The ongoing destabilization of BiH by Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik is causing great concern in the circles of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), the political group announced two days before the start of the EU Parliament session, which will be dedicated in part to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We are concerned about the ongoing destabilization of BiH by Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik and we reject all moves that lead to secession,” the ECR stated, announcing a debate on the country’s European integration, which they say is “painfully slow.”

The European Conservatives and Reformists also announced their constructive participation in the Srebrenica commemoration.

“The ECR pays tribute to the victims of this organised crime of genocide and expresses its deepest condolences for the ongoing pain and suffering that the survivors and the families of the murdered carry throughout their lives. We support all efforts aimed at the recovery of the affected communities, the recovery and identification of the remains of the victims, and the holding of those responsible to account,” said a statement from the group led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party, which is the fourth largest in the EU Parliament.

The European Parliament has scheduled a commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide for Monday afternoon, during which representatives of the European Commission, the European Council, the European Parliament and the political groups in the parliament will speak about the crime. The debate on the resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina is on the agenda of the plenary session on Tuesday evening, while the vote on the document is scheduled for Wednesday at noon.

The Resolution confirms strong support for the country's European perspective, welcomes the decision to open accession negotiations, but expresses concern about the stalled reforms and secessionist rhetoric from Republika Srpska, assessing it as a threat to stability and BiH's European path.

Part of the basic text, which was previously defined and voted on at a session of the Foreign Affairs Committee AFET, includes a number of amendments, including those submitted by a Croatian MEP, calling for the equality of the three constituent peoples and all citizens, reform of the electoral law in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights and the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the protection of the cultural and linguistic rights of minorities.
