Massive protest in Georgia before the "referendum" between Europe and Russia

AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS
Tens of thousands of pro-European protesters gathered yesterday in Tbilisi, Georgia, a week before parliamentary elections billed as a "referendum" between Europe and Russia.
In Tbilisi's Freedom Square, many protesters came with Georgian and European Union flags, while others held "Georgia chooses EU" banners.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili sent a message of support for EU membership at the meeting ahead of the parliamentary elections.
She said that those gathered in the central square in Tbilisi represent free Georgia, Reuters reported.
- Here today is society and people, Georgians, who are going to Europe - said Zurabishvili, who called on the crowd to vote against the Georgian Dream party.
According to Reuters, the elections scheduled for October 26 can be considered a test of whether Georgia will return to Russia's orbit, or maintain a pro-Western orientation.
