"We are here for justice": Students in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš take to the streets

Based on the student demonstrations of 1996/1997, students of the University of Belgrade decided to organize a joint New Year's Eve celebration for all students and citizens under the slogan: "There is no New Year, you still owe us for the old one".

As announced, a fifteen-minute silence will be held at Studentski Trg for the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy from 11:52 p.m.

Students of the universities of Novi Sad and Niš will also welcome 2025 on the streets.

"We are here for justice, very briefly and clearly, we want justice for our Novi Sad and our Serbia", said a student of the Academy of Arts to N1.

Students in Belgrade set off from Pioneer Park towards Studentski Trg.

Students from numerous faculties of the University of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Niš are demanding the following:

– publication of complete documentation on the reconstruction of the Novi Sad railway station,

– dismissal of charges against students and young people arrested and detained during protests over the collapse of the Novi Sad railway station canopy,

– filing criminal charges against attackers of students and professors and their prosecution,

– increase of allocations from the Serbian budget for material costs of state higher education institutions by 20 percent.
