Ahead of tonight’s performance of the play “The Glembajevi” at the National Theatre in Belgrade, the entire acting ensemble appeared before the audience, leaving the floor to Svetozar Cvetković, who addressed the audience as a sign of solidarity with his colleagues from the CNP, whose director Danilo Marunović was questioned for several hours today by the Serbian BIA and then expelled from the country.
In an emotional address, Cvetković emphasized that, as the only member of the ensemble from Belgrade, he felt called to return the kind hospitality he received in Podgorica, but that today’s developments prevented him from doing so.
"It seems to me that I failed in that today, considering how stressful the day was for the entire team. Without going into what the reasons could be for a man, an artist, the director of this play, to be thwarted from further staying in this country, to be expelled in some way, we decided that his work, our play, cannot be expelled and that we will play it for you tonight," said Cvetković.
His words were greeted with applause.
