The German Foreign Ministry announced that the situation in Serbia is "worrying" and that activists are facing many threats for expressing their opinions.
"The situation in Serbia remains deeply worrying. Activists are facing attacks and smear campaigns for raising their voices. The media and politicians must behave responsibly. Serbia is a candidate for the EU and as such, we expect it to respect the rule of law and human rights," the institution said in a statement on the X platform.
As a reminder, the Anti-Money Laundering Directorate has begun, as Radar reported, checking the accounts of individuals from non-governmental, environmental organizations and citizen groups. It is not yet known on what basis this is happening. The Directorate announced that it started the process at the request of another state body, but not on the basis of which criminal offense the investigation is being conducted.
