Car plows into crowd in Mannheim

A car has plowed into a group of people in the western German city of Mannheim, the Mannheimer Morgen newspaper reported, citing witnesses, Reuters reports.

Local police said a police operation was underway in the city centre, but gave no further details.

The incident occurred as people gathered in cities across Germany, including in the Rhineland region, for carnival parades.
