Several tens of thousands of people gathered in Berlin today to protest against the extreme right that they do not want in power, and the rally was held a week before the early parliamentary elections in Germany.
Police said that there were about 30,000 people, while organizers stated that 38,000 gathered against the extreme right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD).
A similar rally was held on February 8 in Munich where there were 250,000 people, and on February 2 in the German capital there were between 160,000 and 250,000 people.
The slogan of today's rally in Berlin was "Hand in hand, we are a protective (sanitary) wall".
The term "sanitary cordon" has been used by traditional parties in Germany since World War II to reject any cooperation at the national level with extreme right-wing movements.
In Berlin, many protesters are concerned that the AfD party will become the second largest in Germany after the parliamentary elections on February 23, while the latest polls predict that it will win 20 to 21 percent of the vote, behind the conservative opposition, which is credited with 30 to 32 percent of the vote.
