Nine Passengers Injured During Emergency Landing of Ryanair Plane in Germany

AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS

Nine people were injured on Wednesday evening during the emergency landing of a Ryanair aircraft in the German city of Memmingen, after the flight encountered severe turbulence caused by a thunderstorm, police reported.

The plane, which was flying from Berlin to Milan, landed safely in Memmingen, about 115 kilometers west of Munich, after weather conditions forced the pilot to make an emergency landing, said Bavarian police, according to Reuters.

Among the injured were a woman who suffered a head injury, her two-year-old child, and a 59-year-old woman who complained of back pain.

All three were taken to hospital, while the minor injuries of other passengers were treated on site.

In a statement, Ryanair said the flight captain requested medical assistance before landing and expressed regret over the incident.

However, local aviation authorities did not immediately authorize the continuation of flights from Memmingen, so transportation for passengers was arranged by bus, according to police, as reported by N1.

“Flight FR8 from Berlin to Milan on June 4 was diverted to Memmingen after experiencing in-air turbulence. The captain requested medical assistance in advance, and the aircraft landed normally. To get passengers to their final destination as quickly as possible, we arranged alternative transport from Memmingen to Milan that night, as well as a replacement flight this morning. We sincerely apologize to the passengers affected by this diversion,” the company said in a statement.
