German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said today that the Iranian leadership has been weakened by Israeli attacks in recent days and is unlikely to regain its former strength.
"This regime has been seriously weakened and will probably not return to its previous level of power, which makes the country's future uncertain. We will have to wait and see how things develop," Merz said in an interview with Welt television during the G7 summit in Canada.
He added that the offer of diplomatic assistance from European countries remains valid, should negotiations resume.
"If a new situation arises, Germany, France and the United Kingdom would be ready to provide diplomatic support again, as they were until last Thursday," Merz said.
