For the first time in history, the world loves China more than the US, Trump even more unpopular than Putin

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

According to the latest data, the popularity of the US has fallen significantly since Donald Trump returned to the White House.

The Democracy Perception Index for 2025, a survey that tracks citizens' attitudes towards democracy, geopolitics and world powers, surveyed more than 110,000 people in 100 countries.

The results show that the majority of respondents have a negative opinion of the US, which represents a sharp decline compared to last year. The biggest loss of trust occurred in the European Union - as expected, given that US President Trump has repeatedly described the EU as "terrible", "pathetic" and "created to exploit the United States".

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former NATO Secretary General and founder of the Alliance of Democracies Fund, who participated in the creation of the index, said that he was not surprised by the results.

China overtakes US, Russia even more unpopular

While America is losing its reputation, China is slowly building it up. For the first time in history, China has overtaken the US in overall global impression, and its image is mostly positive in almost all regions except Europe.

Russia, whose international reputation hit rock bottom after Putin's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, still fares slightly worse than the US, but it has also seen small improvements.

Trump less popular than Putin and Xi

Trump himself is not doing any better either. According to the survey, he is even less popular worldwide than Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Of all the public figures included in the survey - including Elon Musk, Bill Gates, the late Pope Francis, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian - Trump fared the worst.
