Metodije: Monument to Đurišić to be erected in the center of Berane

SOURCE: ANTENA M- AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS

A monument to the notorious Chetnik commander Pavle Đurišić was unveiled today in the Berane village of Gornje Zaostro. The monument was unveiled by Metropolitan of Budimlje-Niksic of the Serbian Orthodox Church Metodije, writes Vijesti.

After the unveiling of the monument, the Serbian national anthem was played.

- This church has never been consecrated 20 years since it was built. Let us gather here in Pavle's name, and then we will hold tribunes and lectures here, bring eminent historians of science. First, establish the monument in our hearts. We will put the monument in the church, and let them demolish the church. His monument will not only be here, but also in the center of Berane, God willing - said Metodije.

They killed the bodies of Dukes Pavle and Dragoljub, as he said, but "they didn't kill their souls," he said, referring to Đurišić and Mihailović.

- Without God, nothing is good, without a king. That's what our ancestors used to say. And then in the last 80 years, since there is no king anymore, the problem has not been so much that we are no longer what our ancestors were or that our country did not have the system it had before that unfortunate Second World War. The greatest tragedy of this people is that its soul has been killed for 80 years. Even today, they and their mentors do not stop destroying everything that is holy and honorable in this people. Everything that is holy in this people, tradition, history. Those who kill the soul of this people, that is the greatest genocide - he said and added that we will best preserve ourselves in the congregation - said Metodije.

He added that Duke Pavle, a native of the Lješanska nahija, came to Vasojevići after losing his father.

- There are many who graduated from military academies and were officers, but there are few who were as brave as Pavle, who was respected not only by those who fought with him, his allies, but also by his opponents. He was with his uncle who was with Duke Vuk, a warrior, a Chetnik in these liberation wars, when we were liberating Serbia, Montenegro and these hills of Istria, Serbia and Macedonia from the Ottoman Empire. That uncle of his, under his command, fought in the war and was a great hero. After the First World War, when Duke Vuk died at Kajmakčalan with most of his fighters, one of those who remained was Duke Pavle's uncle, who raised him and inspired him with the glory of a Serbian knight and hero. Then little Pavle Đurišić could not have followed any other path than the path of his famous knights and heroes, Serbian, Russian and warriors - he said.

He also pointed out that Đurišić, together with his people, was the first to raise an uprising against the occupiers and liberated Berane, the Raška region and Sandžak.

- He fought all the time to defend the Serbian population and his people, who were attacked from all sides to wipe them out and swallow them, and he defended them. There would be no Serbian people, all the Ustaše would have been slaughtered with their sycophants, if he had not stood up for his people - he said.

He also emphasized that Đurišić ended up the way every honest and upright hero ends up.

- He perished with his people at the greatest execution ground, Jasenovac, the greatest city under Serbian soil. He left his bones there, his grave is unknown. But his spirit fuels this people. Yesterday, the honest Dobrašinovićs erected a monument to him on their land, which has been breathing in the air since 2002 by the Titoites and their successors. They do not allow the name of the Serb and the knight who defended the Serbian people to be mentioned. That honorable house, I'm sorry they did it themselves, that they didn't go with me - he said.

He also said that he would put a monument to Đurišić in the church, so let them, as he said, demolish the church.

- We are not afraid of their power, which cannot even bring order to the streets of this country. They came to demolish the monuments of the greatest Serbian knights. They came to fulfill someone's order. This is being done by young guys dressed in fine suits who have occupied high political and state positions and think that from that place they can do as they please. They will never be able to demolish it, because the more time passes, the greater the name and glory of General Dragoljub and Duke Pavle - Metodije stated.

Metodije previously held a liturgy at the church of St. Mother Paraskeva in the village of Gornje Zaostro in Berane, near which a monument in honor of the notorious Chetnik commander from World War II, Pavle Đurišić, was unveiled yesterday.

The leadership of the Berane municipality last night abandoned the implementation of the decision to remove the monument to Pavle Đurišić, Antena M has unofficially learned. Antena M's source claims that the leaders of Berane expect the monument to war criminal Pavle Đurišić to be removed by the citizens who erected it by 3 p.m.

Around a hundred citizens with Chetnik symbols have gathered near the temple, and there are no uniformed police near the monument and the church.
