The women's handball team of Montenegro achieved a victory at the start of the European Championship in Hungary, Austria and Switzerland.
The Montenegrin handball team defeated the Serbian selection 24:18 (11:8) tonight in Debrecen, in Group B.
An excellent performance in defense, great in goal by Armel Atingre and Đurđina Jauković in attack, paved the way for the Montenegrin selection to victory, which they may have achieved more easily than expected.
Đurđina Jauković had a memorable shooting night with 11 goals from 14 shots
Serbia had no solution to the rival's defense, it was equal only in the first ten minutes, when it managed to equalize for the last time (2:2).
Coach Suzana Lazović's team put together a defense and tied four goals for a 6:2 lead in the 19th minute.
At halftime, the score was 11:8, and at the beginning of the second half, a three-goal series brought the highest score to that point (14:8).
The difference in the rest of the game was several times as high as seven goals.
Atingre finished the match with ten saves, while the most efficient was Jauković with 11 goals, pivot Tatjana Brnović scored four, and Milena Raičević scored one less.
Jovana Jovović was the best in the Serbian team with seven goals.
In the second match of Group B, Romania defeated the Czech Republic 29:28 in Debrecen.
Montenegro will play Romania in the second round, on Sunday at 6 p.m.
