US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced today that drastically increased US tariffs will take effect on August 1.
They were announced in early April and then temporarily suspended while negotiations with other countries were underway.
Only those countries that reach agreements with the United States in the coming days will be exempted from this.
The date for the introduction of these "punitive tariffs on countries that profit from trade with the United States" was previously mentioned as July 9, but President Donald Trump said on Friday, without specifying, that the countries in question would start paying on August 1.
For some countries, these tariffs could reach 50% of the value of goods and services they export to the United States.
