US President Donald Trump said today that he intends to work with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to end the ridiculous but deadly war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump said he had a "very good and productive phone call" with Erdogan after a phone call about the war, "Syria, Gaza and many other things."
"The president invited me to come to Turkey, and he will come to Washington," Trump added.
He recalled that during his first presidential term (2017-2021) he had a "great" relationship with Erdogan.
Turkey, which is an important NATO member, participated in meetings of European and British allies in support of Ukraine.
Erdogan has repeatedly offered to host peace talks on the Ukrainian war.
The Turkish head of state maintains contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and they recently discussed a treaty on peaceful navigation through the Black Sea that is hindering Russia's war with Ukraine. In 2022, Ankara brokered a deal allowing Ukrainian grain exports across the Black Sea. Russia later abandoned the agreement.
