US President Donald Trump commented on current events in the world in an exclusive interview with Fox News - the failed mineral deal with Ukraine, his approach to Russia, Hamas and Iran, as well as the danger posed by nuclear weapons.
"Zelensky took American money from Biden as easily as if he were stealing candy from a child"
"You know, what he did was like taking candy from a baby. He's smart and tough, and under Biden he took money from the US with incredible ease. And I just don't think he's even grateful. In my opinion, we gave him $350 billion, while Europe invested $100 billion. We gave him $350 billion, and he talks about how they fought and how brave they were - someone had to give them those weapons. But without those weapons... Don't forget, I was the one who gave him Javelin missiles, which could have knocked out enemy targets. Obama didn't give anything.
Look, if I had been president, that would never have happened. Russia would never have gone into Ukraine.
The whole situation with Hamas and the October 7 attack - that would never have happened either because Iran was broken at the time. They didn't have the money, they didn't send it to Hamas or Hezbollah or anyone else. You wouldn't have the worst evacuation ever seen - which was Afghanistan, the most shameful day in the history of our country.
And you know what else you wouldn't have? You wouldn't have inflation. Under Biden, we had record inflation, it was devastating - one of the reasons I won the election," Trump said.
On price increases
"A CEO told me that his input costs have already started to go up. Interest rates? You're talking about them going down? I've been saying that for a long time - they need to go down. Nobody ever gets rich when interest rates are high because people can't borrow money. Interest rates are going down, and you know what else is going down? Energy. I want energy prices to go down. Energy was the main cause of inflation, and they ruined everything. They screwed up the energy policy, and then they had to go back to drilling because the prices went up."
Do you expect Zelensky to come back and sign the minerals deal?
When asked if he expected Volodymyr Zelensky to "come back" and complete the minerals deal, Donald Trump told Fox News:
"Yes. I think he will. I think it will happen."
When asked if he was sure that Ukraine even had these resources, as some doubt the existence of titanium and rare earth minerals, Trump said:
"I believe they do."
He returned to Europe and Ukraine again
Later in the interview, Trump added:
"You know what else bothers me about Europe? They gave Russia far more money buying their oil than they invested in Ukraine. So they're paying Russia a huge amount of money, and we're in it for $350 billion. Biden should never have allowed that."
He then continued:
"We have an entire ocean between us, but it was Europe that allowed itself to be exposed to danger. If you want to call it danger, they are in much greater danger. That should never have been allowed."
On the recession
Trump is not ruling out the possibility of a recession due to the trade war with Canada and Mexico.
He also did not rule out the possibility that Americans could experience economic hardship, including a recession, as a result of his attempts to provoke a trade war with Canada, Mexico and other countries.
The Fox News host asked Trump if he agreed with the Atlanta Fed's forecast of an impending recession, but Trump avoided a direct answer:
"I hate to predict things like that. This is a period of transition because what we are doing is very big," Trump said, continuing: "There are always transition periods - it takes a little time. It takes a little time. But I think in the end it will be great for us."
"Tariffs may increase over time, and they may increase," he added.
What if the US gives up and Ukraine doesn't survive, are you ready for that?
"Well, he might not survive anyway. That war wouldn't have happened if I had been president.
Biden left me with open borders that let in 21 million people, many of whom shouldn't be here. Many are criminals, many are murderers, drug dealers, drug lords. We have this whole mess with Israel and the attack on October 7, and all the consequences of the worst and stupidest retreat in history."
Ukraine and Israel were attacked by aggressors - does America treat both countries equally?
"I think so. But look, they're completely different places. We're talking about different levels of power, different parts of the world. The Middle East has always been under attack. When wasn't he under attack?"
Were you as tough on Russia as you were on Hamas?
"Of course I did. Look, I wasn't the one who had to act against Hamas – that's Israel's business. But Israel keeps me informed of everything that's going on. I was tougher on Russia than anyone ever was.
Remember, we had that 'Russia, Russia, Russia' hoax. It was dangerous, it could lead to war. It was all started by Adam Schiff and a gang of punks. It was a false narrative. The one scandal with 51 intelligence agencies - I took away their access. They knew it was all coming from Hunter Biden's 'laptop from hell', from his bathroom or bedroom. Not a pretty sight.
I stopped the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Biden came and immediately approved it. I imposed sanctions on Russia. I gave Ukraine Javelin missiles against Russia. I was harsh, but I had a good relationship with Putin. And now they say 'he is soft on Putin' - no one was tougher on Putin than me. Biden did nothing. He is a weak and miserable man."
What do you say to critics who claim that you sided with Russia in the conflict with Ukraine?
"Nobody was tougher on Russia than me. Everybody knows that. Look at the facts. I stopped Nord Stream 2 – the biggest economic project they ever had. Nobody even knew about it until I got involved. Russia was building that pipeline and it was supposed to supply Germany and the rest of Europe. And what did I do? I stopped it. And then Biden came along and approved it the second day he came."
