US President Donald Trump inaugurated a new golf course at his sprawling Scottish estate on Monday, saying he would play a quick round before returning home to focus on resolving crises in the Middle East and elsewhere.
Trump, who is wrapping up a five-day visit to Scotland, joined former footballers, golfers and business leaders for the first round of golf at his new 18-hole second course at Trump International near Aberdeen.
Although the visit was initially billed as private, it quickly took on a diplomatic dimension, including a trade deal with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, bilateral meetings with British officials and phone calls aimed at ending the simmering war between Cambodia and Thailand.
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday, Trump pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the worsening hunger crisis in the war-torn Palestinian enclave of Gaza. Asked at an event on Tuesday what he would say to Netanyahu, Trump said he was trying to "fix things."
