The U.S. administration will impose trade tariffs and secondary sanctions on Russia if Moscow does not agree to a ceasefire or conclude a peace agreement regarding Ukraine within 50 days, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said today.
“As the President has made clear, if there is no ceasefire or peace agreement in 50 days—if Russia refuses to agree to a ceasefire—it will face very high tariffs, as well as secondary sanctions,” Leavitt said at a press conference at the White House, according to TASS.
This means, she added, that countries purchasing oil from Russia will also be sanctioned, which will cause significant damage to the Russian economy.
“I would like to emphasize that the President wants this war to end through a diplomatic solution,” Leavitt stated.
