US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are considering a deal in which Washington would buy battlefield-tested Ukrainian drones in exchange for Kiev buying weapons from the US, Zelensky said in an interview with the New York Post.
Zelensky said his latest talks with Trump were focused on an agreement that would help both countries improve their air technology
Ukrainian drones have been able to hit targets as deep as 1,300 kilometres inside Russian territory.
“The American people need this technology, and you must have it in your arsenal,” Zelensky told The Post in an interview conducted yesterday.
The Ukrainian leader said drones were a key tool that has enabled his country to resist a Russian invasion for more than three years.
“We are ready to share this experience with America and other European partners,” he said. He added that Ukraine is also in talks with Denmark, Norway and Germany.
Zelenskyy today announced future, as yet unspecified, agreements with the US that he said would strengthen his country, as he presented proposals for a new government to parliament.
For next year, the US defense and national security budget increases allocations for small drones – based in part on lessons from Russia’s war in Ukraine, where unmanned aerial vehicles have proven to be an important and effective part of the fight at low cost.
