The death toll from Saturday's petrol tanker explosion in Nigeria has risen to 86, with 55 injured and undergoing treatment, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Abdulahi Baba-Arah, the director-general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), said most of the victims were buried in a mass grave.
"A total of 86 people have been confirmed dead, whose remains have been recovered and buried. Eighty of them were buried in a mass grave in the compound of the Diko Health Centre, while five bodies were claimed by their families for burial, while one died at the Diko Health Centre," Baba-Arah said.
The explosion occurred when residents tried to collect fuel that had leaked from the overturned tanker, which caught fire, killing those at the scene, including rescue workers.
