Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently facing the biggest challenges since Dayton. The situation in the country is extremely tense, which is particularly reflected in the halting of economic processes and the infliction of great damage on the economy of BiH.
Marinko Božović, mayor of the municipality of Istočna Ilidža and member of the Main Board of the SDS, said this for the Slovenian newspaper Delo.
“Republika Srpska, as an integral part of BiH, has an even bigger problem because the isolation we find ourselves in is deepening, and the leadership of Republika Srpska led by Dodik is making bad moves, which will have the greatest consequences for the population,” says Božović.
He adds that the main and fundamental problem will emerge and the economy of BiH and the entities, especially Republika Srpska, will suffer the consequences.
“The entire RS leadership is under sanctions, which has led to the inability to borrow and enter the international financial market, so the level of investment will be significantly reduced. An additional problem will be the disputes that have been lost so far, which will cost the budget of BiH and RS over 400 million KM for now, referring to the Viaduct and Ugljevik case. If such a trend and relationship continues, we measure the potential damage we will suffer at over 2 billion KM. It is symptomatic that the prosecutors' offices are not taking any action on this issue,” Božović told Delo.
He also responded to Delo's statement that the current RS government draws a large part of its strength from support in Budapest, Moscow and Belgrade, and the question of how, in that situation, it is even possible to seriously discuss the European perspective of BiH?
“I am completely convinced that the current government has become a huge burden to official Belgrade, that the love of Hungarians is being bought, and that Dodik skillfully uses the emotions that Serbs have towards the Russian Federation. His statements that Europe is a failed project and that we should turn to other unions show how committed he is to the European path. Our views on the future of the country differ significantly and we will not allow anyone to play with the peace in the country,” said Božović.
He said that Bosnia and Herzegovina certainly belongs and it is quite normal for it to be part of the EU.
“Officials from Brussels should expand their list of interlocutors to include some of the opposition political parties and hear how we see the process of joining the community. We are certainly well behind schedule and we have to work much harder to gain additional trust from Brussels, he said.
He also said that it is not true that the peoples are dissatisfied with their status and organization in BiH.
“Practically, the position of the Croats will be resolved by amending the Election Law and fulfilling their conditions, with the obligation to also fulfill the conditions from the Sejdić and Finci judgment. "We in Republika Srpska are protected by the mechanisms we have from Dayton, and only irresponsible individuals or parties can put us in a bad position. We have been taught that there have been such people and that Dodik is the one who led the way in undermining our status," says Božović.
