Dodik: If the CEC forbids me from running for president of the RS, I will be prime minister

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

President of the Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik said today that he will be prime minister of the RS if the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CIK) forbids him from running in the general elections next year.

"Things are uncertain now, because they can forbid me from running through the CEC. I am speaking hypothetically now. And if they forbid me from running, someone else will be the candidate on behalf of the ruling coalition and he will win. And then I will be prime minister," Dodik said in an interview with Banja Luka's "Glas Srpske".

He added that "they cannot forbid him from running as prime minister", emphasizing that "for them, that is more dangerous than being president".

Dodik further said that there will be no conflicts or war in BiH.

"Bosniaks, Muslims, want some kind of second half, they would gladly enter into conflict, because they think that they can achieve some of their goals. But it is obvious that nothing will come of it," he said.

He added that the entity government "has no intention of going to war, but that it will defend Republika Srpska by political means."

"We are not interested in Sarajevo, Tuzla, or anything in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina... For me, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has long been a foreign country. The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has committed many violations, its very existence is problematic," Dodik said.

He called the verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which sentenced him to a year in prison and a six-year ban on holding the office of president, politically motivated, assessing that "the political abuse of judicial bodies in Sarajevo is exclusively in the service of Muslims."

"And I fight against that. If you overthrow an authority like Milorad Dodik, at least others say that I am an authority, what will happen to someone else then? What will happen to other presidents of the Republic? Will they be allowed to sign a decree on the promulgation of a law? Or will they ask Sarajevo for everything," said Dodik.

According to him, he is fighting for the status of RS within Bosnia and Herzegovina, but, as he said, "a constitutional Bosnia and Herzegovina, not the one that Muslims want".

He believes that the Bosnia and Herzegovina crisis will be resolved "through some form of politics, because the crisis was caused by a political process".

Asked if he was satisfied with the number of members of the Bosnian Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) who left that police agency and transferred to the RS Ministry of Interior, to which the authorities of that Bosnian entity invited them after the ban on SIPA from operating in RS, Dodik said that he expected it to be different and that it was "devastating".

"It is devastating. There are Serbs who are ready to work for Sarajevo and BiH, and against Republika Srpska. Those who remain in SIPA are ready to work against Republika Srpska. We are waiting for the formation of a special prosecutor's office and a court, and then we will act," he warned.

Of the 300 Serbs employed by SIPA, only six have left the agency and transferred to the RS Ministry of Interior, the police agency previously stated.

Dodik further stated that Republika Srpska has "visible" friends in the world, adding that, as he estimates, there are 140-150 members of the European Parliament "who will without hesitation side with Republika Srpska", specifying that the RS is supported by the Freedom Party from Austria, the German AfD, the Marine Le Pen party and Matteo Salvini's party in Italy.

He stressed that Republika Srpska has good relations with Serbia, Russia, Azerbaijan and China, and that he expects the new US administration to redefine its policy in BiH in the coming months.

Dodik also stressed that he is not worried about his safety, because he is "guarded by the RS police", announcing that he will be in Moscow on May 9th to mark Victory Day over Fascism.
