China Imposes Reciprocal Tariffs on U.S. Imports: Retaliation for Trump's Trade War

AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS

China has announced it will impose reciprocal tariffs of 34% on all imports from the United States starting April 10th, fulfilling its promise to strike back after U.S. President Donald Trump escalated the global trade war, reports CNN.

On Wednesday, Trump unveiled additional tariffs of 34% on all Chinese imports to the U.S., a move that is set to trigger a major reset in relations and worsen trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies, according to N1.

"This U.S. practice is not in line with the rules of international trade, seriously undermines China's legitimate rights and interests, and represents a typical example of unilateral bullying," said a statement from China’s State Council Tariff Commission, which announced the introduction of retaliatory tariffs.

Since taking office in January, Trump has already imposed two rounds of additional tariffs of 10% on all Chinese imports, which the White House claims are necessary to stop the flow of illegal fentanyl from China to the U.S. This means that Chinese goods arriving in the U.S. will be subject to tariffs of 54%.
