IDF kills Palestinian near Hebron after alleged attempted stabbing

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

At least 71 people were killed yesterday in Israeli attacks on several areas of the Gaza Strip, the Gaza Civil Defense reported.

At the same time, the rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe stated that “the actions in Gaza are leading to ethnic cleansing and genocide”, warning of the scale of the humanitarian crisis that is deepening every day.

On the night between Thursday and Friday, fifteen trucks of the World Food Programme (WFP) were looted in Gaza, while the local population continues to suffer the consequences of months of conflict.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres assessed that the Palestinians are currently experiencing “perhaps the most cruel period” of the entire conflict.

“Finally, humanitarian aid is coming in,” Guterres said at a press conference in New York. “But what Israel is allowing is just a grain of help, while a whole shower is needed,” he added, sharply criticizing the intensification of the Israeli military offensive, which he described as an action with a “terrible level of death and destruction.”

A Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces near Hebron in the occupied West Bank this afternoon after he attempted to carry out a stabbing attack, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to an IDF statement, the man approached soldiers at a military checkpoint near Hebron and allegedly tried to attack them with a knife. The soldiers opened fire in response, killing him.

None of the Israeli soldiers were injured.

The incident, according to the Israeli newspaper Maariv, took place near the Tamar checkpoint. The Palestinian’s identity has not yet been released, and the Palestinian authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
