EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kalas stated after the meeting with Serbian officials that her message to the authorities in Belgrade is clear - that on the path to the EU, political leaders must implement the necessary reforms and clearly determine the strategic direction.
"I want to see Serbia progressing towards the European Union. In order to achieve this, political leaders must implement the necessary reforms and clearly determine the strategic direction. This is best achieved by restoring trust and being consistent in the application of democratic principles," Kalas said.
Macut: Serbia's unequivocal European orientation
As announced by the Serbian Government, Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut spoke with Kaja Kalas about the continuation and possibility of accelerating Serbia's European integration process, as well as the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Macut emphasized Serbia's unequivocal European orientation at the meeting.
He stressed the need to accelerate the European integration process and expressed his belief that concrete steps on that path will soon be discussed, such as the opening of Cluster 3, which has been awaited for three years, the statement said.
Macut also said that Serbia is fully committed to reform processes aimed at harmonizing with EU criteria and that it is aware of the importance of reforms for, above all, the citizens of Serbia.
Kaja Kalas arrived in Belgrade last night. She met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, and this morning she also had a meeting with Prime Minister Đuro Macut and representatives of the opposition.
