Kiev was again the target of massive drone and missile attacks during the night between Friday and Saturday, injuring at least 15 people. Two of the injured were taken to hospital, while the others were treated on the spot, while emergency teams are still on the ground.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down six Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles and 245 enemy drones, while Russia claimed to have shot down 94 Ukrainian drones.

The attacks caused fires and material damage in several areas of the city, and rescue teams continue to work on the ground.

The attack came just hours after Russia and Ukraine began a prisoner exchange, seen as a first step towards a ceasefire

Russia has launched a major drone and missile attack on Kiev, wounding 15 people, in one of the heaviest attacks on the Ukrainian capital since the start of the more than three-year war.

The attack was carried out in waves - 14 ballistic missiles were fired and 250 drones were launched in the early hours of Saturday morning. The Ukrainian military shot down six missiles and managed to stop most of the drones before they reached Kiev.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it had been a "difficult night for all of Ukraine" and renewed calls for tougher sanctions against Russia to achieve a ceasefire.

The attack came just hours after Russia and Ukraine began exchanging hundreds of captured soldiers and civilians, the first phase of a deal reached this week in Istanbul. The agreement is seen as a first step towards a permanent ceasefire between the two countries.

The overnight attack sent scores of Kyivans seeking shelter in metro stations. Rocket debris and unexploded ordnance caused damage in six districts of the city, with smoke rising from several of the affected areas.

The Obolon district was among the hardest hit, with Ukrainian officials saying at least five people were wounded and one apartment building was severely damaged.

The airstrike on Kyiv lasted more than seven hours, as Russian forces launched wave after wave of drones and missiles towards the capital. The strikes followed days of Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory, including Moscow.
