France plans to recognize a Palestinian state in the coming months and could do so as early as the United Nations conference dedicated to resolving the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians to be held in June this year in New York, French President Emmanuel Macron said today.
"We must move towards recognition (of the Palestinian state) and we will do so in the coming months. At the UN conference, we could finalize mutual recognition (of the Palestinian state) and several other states. We will do so," Macron said in an interview with TV France 5, reported the daily Le Monde.
France has long advocated a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, even after the attack on Israel by Palestinian militants Hamas on October 7, 2023.
