Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this morning that one of the Israeli government's war goals is the return of residents to the north of the country, where they fled from attacks by the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah.
The government's policy and security council decided to include the safe return of residents from the north to their homes in the goals of the war, according to a statement by the Israeli prime minister.
Israeli forces and the Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group have been attacking each other almost daily since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
The aim of Hezbollah's attacks is to support Hamas. Hundreds of people died in the violence, on both sides.
Because of the conflict, tens of thousands of residents left their homes on both sides of the border.
