Russia launched more than 700 drones into Ukraine overnight, significantly more than in previous attacks in the past two weeks.
With 728 drones and 13 missiles, the Russian attack involved the largest number of drones deployed in a single night of the war. On Friday, Russia launched 550 drones, less than a week after launching 477, the most at the time, officials said.
Russia is trying to penetrate Ukraine’s air defenses with massive strikes. The latest attack appears to have been aimed at disrupting Ukraine’s vital supply of Western weapons, the AP reports. The city of Lutsk, home to airfields used by the Ukrainian military, was hit hardest, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It is located in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland, and the area is a key hub for receiving foreign military aid.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces targeted Ukrainian air bases and that all designated targets were hit. Meanwhile, Ukraine sent drones into Russia overnight, killing three people, officials said.
