Belgrade high school students organized a protest march called "Circle Two." In social media posts, students involved in blockades urged citizens to "stop the people around them," go outside, not spend money, and not go to work.
After 15 minutes of silence, the protesters started making a lot of noise, blowing whistles, waving flags, and banging drums, and then they headed towards the RTS building via Slavija.
A group of public service employees thanked the students and citizens for coming to the protest, and a journalist from RTS addressed the crowd, reading a letter and the demands from RTS's Niš branch.
The demands are as follows:
"We demand moral responsibility from journalists and editors, and a public apology in the Dnevnik 2 program for the lies and insults directed at our colleagues, students, actors, and the general public.
We demand an apology from colleague Lidija Georgijev for broadcasting an unforgivable insult on March 1, 2025, during the Dnevnik 2 program, as well as for the inadequate reaction to that insult in the same show.
We demand an apology to students for insults and slanders against them in prime-time news programs, as well as for the lack of coverage and the relativization of their activities over the past three and a half months.
We demand an apology to actors for insults and slanders directed at them in the Dnevnik 2 program.
We demand an apology to all citizens of Serbia for being exposed to false and censored information, which is unworthy of any public service.
We demand truthful reporting, independent of pressures, the prevention of corruption, and the avoidance of conflicts of interest.
We demand the right to continue truthful reporting, independent work without censorship, and the professional execution of our regular tasks, which have recently been jeopardized.
We demand an immediate change in the editorial concept of RTS's news program and professional reporting in accordance with the current laws and the journalistic code. This includes reporting on all current events in Serbia that are of public interest to all our citizens, as well as opening the program to representatives of all segments of our society. This applies to all news program shows, from the morning broadcast to the evening Dnevnik 3.
Due to the current way of reporting in the news program, most RTS employees have become hostages of an irresponsible and negligent minority. We face numerous problems in our work, and above all, the reputation of RTS is crumbling day by day.
We demand an immediate break from the harmful way of reporting and the start of applying professional codes and laws concerning public information and public media services.
We, the respected management of RTS, demand that our requests be fulfilled by March 15, 2025.
Our demands are based on reason, the journalistic code, and morality.
We hope you will fulfill them, but if this does not happen, we will be forced to take further steps," they concluded in their address.
RTS cameraman Milan Stanić sent a message to the organization he works for, saying it has the potential to be a giant, but has lost its way in its tasks.
"Dear colleagues, thank you for being brave and courageous enough that we are here today, fighting for a better company in which we work, knowing that a better RTS means a fight for a better society in which we would live. Dear people, all of you who support us, all of you who came to help us achieve our goals, thank you, because without you, none of this would be possible," he said.
Citizens later gathered near the presidency, where tents for "Students 2.0" were set up, demanding to return to school and to be heard by the president. They were told, "Come for sandwiches." A police cordon was also present to break up the demonstration.
