Russia launched an attack on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and Mykolaiv in the south of the country with drones overnight, injuring at least 12 people, authorities said on Thursday.
Two women were injured in the capital, where drones caused a fire in a storage facility and damaged residential buildings, according to Kyiv’s military administration.
The Ukrainian Air Force said it shot down 85 of the 145 drones Russia launched in its overnight attack. It added that 49 others failed to reach their targets, likely due to electronic warfare countermeasures.
They did not clarify what happened to the remaining 11 drones.
Authorities recorded 30 drones in the airspace over the capital, 16 of which were destroyed, while the rest either left the airspace or “disappeared.”
In the overnight attack, 10 people were also injured in the southern city of Mykolaiv, said regional governor Vitaliy Kim.
The Russian attack also damaged nine residential buildings, 30 garages, and an administrative building, he added.
Russia denies deliberately targeting civilians, but thousands have been killed and injured in its invasion of Ukraine.
