Vučić: Paper from the US on sanctions against NIS is coming soon

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today that the paper from the US on sanctions against the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) will arrive on Friday, January 10 or Monday, January 13, adding that there will be no crisis.

"There will be no crisis, we have enough oil reserves, and the paper from the US on sanctions against NIS will arrive on Friday or Monday, January 10 or 13," Vučić said in the Morning Program of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

The Serbian President said yesterday that the US Undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, Jose Fernandez, had confirmed to him that the country would introduce direct sanctions against NIS.

"For us, there are only two, let me say, unknowns. One is whether this applies to the entire Russian ownership or only to the majority stake. And the other is the deadlines. I asked for the longest possible deadlines. We'll see how it looks," Vučić said.

According to him, Serbia imports crude oil, which is mostly processed at the refinery in Pančevo.

"We import it through the Adriatic Oil Pipeline, through Omišalj, through Croatia. And now that the sanctions are coming, that will probably no longer be possible! Although I also spoke with (Croatian Prime Minister Andrej) Plenković and we have a valid contract. Just to inform people, there will be no shortages," Vučić said.
