Four Teslas set on fire in Berlin, police suspect political motive

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

Unknown perpetrators set four Tesla cars on fire in the Berlin area last night, and the police believe that these are criminal acts with a political motive.

"Four Tesla cars were completely burned down in different parts of Berlin during the night. Five vehicles that were nearby were also damaged," the police statement said.

Given that these are likely criminal acts with a political motive, the Office for Combating Crime has taken over the investigation.

Criticism of Tesla owner Elon Musk has intensified after he began working closely with US President Donald Trump.

Musk's factory near Berlin has previously been under attack by activists over concerns that the construction of the factory could affect the ecological system, especially the water supply in the area southeast of Berlin.

After Musk's controversial public appearances, including his support for the right-wing Alternative for Germany and interference in the German election campaign, Musk's reputation suffered a sharp decline, which also resulted in a drastic decrease in sales of his cars in Germany. Arson attacks on Tesla cars have also been reported in the US.

In Berlin, there is a tradition of setting fire to luxury cars, especially in areas of the city that are affected by the process of so-called gentrification.
