Šehović: Civic Montenegro will not allow playing with national interests through changes to the Law on Montenegrin Citizenship

AUTHOR: M.J.
Amendments to the law on Montenegrin citizenship, with which one part of the parliamentary majority blackmails the other, with the intention of maintaining it at all costs, even artificially and temporarily, represent a very dangerous political plan that could have incalculable harmful consequences for the civic and state-forming being of Montenegro. That's why we tell those who have started in that direction to do their best, since it is quite certain that a self-aware, civil Montenegro will certainly not allow such latest playing with national and state interests, said the president of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD), dr. Damir Sehovic.

In the announcement, he states that the political agenda of those who very consciously serve the interests of official Belgrade, and who as such are best suited to implement the latest political concoction, is clear.

- The intention is to first change the law that regulates the acquisition of Montenegrin citizenship, and then, through the abuse of the residence institute, begin the mass exercise of the right to vote, that is, to change the "blood image" of our society. The ultimate goal has long been known - to make Montenegro politically and in every other way completely dependent on our neighboring Serbia, in order to create a suitable social environment for a possible formal review of the state-legal status of Montenegro, Šehović announced.

As he said, the political structures that legitimized themselves with the aforementioned, as well as the demands related to the amendment of the Constitution in the part of certain identity issues, do not hide their submissiveness towards the official Belgrade.

- On the contrary. They are proud of their approach. However, the loud silence of those who were given this ultimatum tells us that they are also ready to play this card, which is dangerous for the interests of Montenegro, for the sake of the survival of the Government and the preservation of ministerial seats. That is why both of them must know that moving in that direction would cause a strong political reaction, which in the end will certainly make such a harmful approach impossible. And they, as the initiators of these sensitive issues, will be fully responsible for the political polarization that this will certainly cause, the SD leader concluded.
