Šehović: Montenegro should remain consistent with the timeless state-building and anti-fascist values

The President of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD), Damir Šehović, sent a congratulatory message to the citizens of Montenegro on the occasion of July 13 - the Statehood Day of Montenegro, which is also the Day of the Uprising and the beginning of the fight against fascism, stressing that the values of the 13th of July directed Montenegro towards the path of struggle for independence, state sovereignty and freedom.
Today, when we mark this significant date, on the wave of lasting civilizational values that have always distinguished Montenegro and its citizens, we continue to wage a political struggle to preserve independence and freedom, but most importantly, we remain permanently committed to the ideals of peace, tolerance and coexistence. Today, more than ever, we need to remain focused on the European path, which will enable Montenegro to develop in accordance with high European and world standards, but be consistent with itself, its citizens, the general interest and the principles on which our national dignity is based - said Šehović.
He said that pride should always be emphasized because the Montenegrin struggle for statehood was based on the struggle against fascism, so anti-fascism is an important part of the Montenegrin identity, but that modern times require resistance to the numerous challenges of today that are often faced by Montenegro and its to citizens.
We must persevere in the fight to return Montenegro to the path of development and prosperity, in order to celebrate national victories as often as possible, but also to successfully resist the discourse that aims to divide our citizens on different grounds, creating discord and diverting our society from striving for general good - said Šehović.
Šehović emphasized that out of respect for the sacrifice that the Montenegrin people made in the fight for statehood, sovereignty and freedom, showing determined resistance to the occupier and commitment to anti-fascism, the task of today's generations is to protect and defend Montenegro and its vital national interests.
We have only one country, just as one heart beats in our chest, so we must carefully and carefully guard it and take care of its vital interests. We must not allow a deviation from the Euro-Atlantic road, which we have painstakingly traced all the previous years. We must continue advocating for the preservation of the civic character of Montenegro, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multinational harmony and coexistence, as well as all state-building values that are imperishable and permanent - concluded Šehović.
