International Women's Day, March 8, is an opportunity to remember all the women who fought for equality and dignity, as well as to recognize the contribution that women make every day in our communities, announced the president of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD), Dr. Damir Šehović.
"Today we celebrate their silent struggle because they changed history and thereby achieved progress in the field of equality between women and men in all spheres of life," said Šehović.
According to him, although some progress has been made in terms of gender equality, there are still challenges faced by women in Montenegro.
"The right to equal participation of women and men in all social processes and changes is one of the fundamental principles of democratic governance. On the other hand, women both in the world and in Montenegro pay the price for their political and social participation. Women continue to face discrimination, exclusion, harassment, misogynistic and sexist attacks, sexual harassment, many continue to suffer from various forms of violence, and this is something that as a society we must not accept," added the SD president.
Šehović emphasized that it is necessary to continue work on building a more gender inclusive, safer and fairer society for all fellow citizens, as well as on creating equal opportunities and rights, but also preserving the acquired ones.
"The mission of the Social Democrats is aimed at creating an environment in which all citizens, regardless of personal characteristics, will be able to equally enjoy human rights, realize their full potential and contribute to the development of our country," he said.
Šehović reminded of the need to create a safer and fairer society for all citizens.
"Let this day be a reminder that we all need to build a fair, just and safe society together, which encourages and encourages each individual, but also enables equal conditions for work and life, progress and development in accordance with possibilities and regardless of any what a special thing. In order to fight for social, political and economic equality of the sexes, which is still going on, the right to voice, without withdrawal, silence and hiding, I wish you a happy March 8", stated Šehović in his congratulatory address to female citizens on the occasion of this international holiday.
