A person from Serbia who fell ill with smallpox stayed in the territory of Montenegro during the incubation period

The Institute for Public Health of Montenegro (IJZCG) once again appealed to parents and guardians to vaccinate their children with the MMR vaccine.
Upon notification by the competent services to the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro, that the epidemiological surveillance of the newly confirmed case of smallpox in Serbia established that the infected person had resided in the territory of Montenegro during the incubation period, all competent institutions in Montenegro were notified in accordance with national and international protocols and for now there is no report of suspected smallpox in Montenegro related to this case - the IJZ announced.
Also, as they pointed out, all necessary anti-epidemic measures were implemented for the patient and his contacts, in order to prevent and suppress the spread of the mentioned infectious disease.
The smallpox epidemic in the neighboring countries is still of low intensity, but each new confirmed case of the disease requires an additional alarm for all parents in Montenegro who have not yet protected their children from the disease. Also, due to the increased movement of passengers during the holiday period and the upcoming summer season, the possibility of virus transmission increases, which represents a special precaution considering the low coverage of the MMR vaccine in Montenegro - it is stated in the statement.
They note that the low rate of immunization of children with the MMR vaccine can only lead to a new epidemic among the most vulnerable, and this time it would be children.
Therefore, we believe that with the help of parents, we will succeed in preventing the smallpox epidemic in our country and preserve the health of the youngest members of our society - concluded the IJZ.
