A public call for the election of four judges of the Constitutional Court has been announced

The Constitutional Committee announced a public call for the election of four judges of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro.

A person may be elected as a judge of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro who, in addition to the conditions prescribed by the Constitution for a judge of the Constitutional Court, also meets the general conditions for work in a state body.

The judge is chosen from among prominent lawyers with at least 40 years of age and 15 years of work experience in the legal profession.

"The general conditions for work in a state body that a candidate for a judge of the Constitutional Court must meet are that he is a Montenegrin citizen; that he is medically fit to perform the duties of the position; that he has the prescribed level of educational qualification; that he has passed the professional exam for work in state bodies or bar exam", it is stated on the website of the Parliament of Montenegro

The public invitation will be announced in the "Official Gazette of Montenegro" and on the website of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The deadline for registering candidates is 15 days from the date of the announcement of the Public Call.

The list of registered candidates will be published on the website of the Parliament of Montenegro and will be available to the public for at least 10 days from the date of publication.

Let us remind you that the blockade of the Constitutional Court was caused by the decision of the parliamentary majority, which consists of pro-Russian and pro-Serbian parties gathered around the Democratic Front, Democrats and the Citizens' Movement URA, to reduce the retirement limit for one year. Because of that decision, two judges of the Constitutional Court were retired, and that institution was left without a quorum for decision-making. The same majority did not support any of the 18 candidates, among whom were some of the best legal experts from Montenegro. After announcing the new round, they tried to impose their own politically suitable candidate without holding negotiations with the opposition. After that, they usually try to put the blame on the political competition with lies and manipulations. However, such things did not go down well with the international community, especially the European Union, which, because of the violation of the Constitution and the passing of an unconstitutional law on the president, as well as the announcement of the election of an anti-European government headed by Milosevic's ambassador Miodrag Lekić, threatened to terminate the accession negotiations and isolate the country.
