After the sexism he expressed towards Vuksanović-Stanković, Markuš called Roma a derogatory term

Six non-governmental organizations - Action for Human Rights (HRA), Spektra Association, Center for Women's Rights (CŽP), Center for Civic Education - CGO, Montenegrin LGBTIQ Association Kvir Montenegro and NGO Prima, condemned hate speech against Roma and violation of children's rights from by Jovan Markuš, former member of the National Commission for UNESCO.
They pointed out that after the sexism that he publicly expressed towards Social Democratic Party (SDP) MP Draginja Vuksanović-Stanković, Markuš has now targeted the Roma as well.
"Non-governmental organizations support the criminal complaint of the Roma council against Markuš and expect the competent state prosecutor to approach the assessment of this case, taking into account international standards and comparative practice in the field of suppressing hate speech. In two posts on social media, Markuš warned the public about Romski council, called Roma a derogatory term, and, abusing the fact that the majority of members of the Roma people live in poverty, alluded, without any evidence, that the Roma whose photos he highlighted on the social network were paid to participate in a political protest, i.e. that they do not have their own political stance ", they state in the statement.
From these six NGOs, they add that he also portrayed a minor child in the same negative context.
"Such treatment is contrary to Article 16 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guarantees every child the right to protection against arbitrary or illegal interference in his privacy and illegal attacks on his honor and reputation. Two non-governmental organizations, HRA and CŽP, in January of this year from the Prime Minister at the time, Zdravko Krivokapić, requested that Markuša, because of hateful speech against women, dissolve his membership in the National Commission for UNESCO - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, but this was not done until July of this year, when the new government formed a new commission for cooperation of the state with UNESCO", they emphasize in the announcement.
Six NGOs believe that the state should adopt a national strategy to combat hate speech, i.e. all forms of inciting or inciting hatred or intolerance on any basis, in accordance with the Constitution of Montenegro and the recommendations of the Council of Europe.
