Ambassador Felten: The new government should be composed only of pro-European and Euro-Atlantic forces

Negotiations for the formation of the Government officially began yesterday, with meetings between Mandator Spajić and political parties that can potentially be partners in the new Montenegrin government. And while, according to analysts' assessments, long and exhausting negotiations await us, the embassies of Western countries agree that only parties that proactively stand for pro-European and Euro-Atlantic values can be partners with the European Union and the United States of America.
This assessment is shared by the Ambassador of Germany in Montenegro, Peter Felten, who in a statement for the Standard portal points out that Germany's position has not changed.
Our position has not changed: we believe that it is in the best interest of Montenegro that its new government be based and composed only of those political forces that actively and credibly promote Montenegro's pro-European and Euro-Atlantic orientation - said Felten.
Felten pointed out that as a NATO member state and a candidate for EU membership, Montenegro is an important partner of Germany in all circumstances.
At the same time, it is clear that the breadth and depth of cooperation between the governments of our two countries will be significantly affected by the extent to which the new Montenegrin government will actually be formed and supported by political forces that credibly and actively promote Montenegro as a partner in the North Atlantic Alliance and as a candidate for the accession to the EU - the German ambassador is clear.
Bearing that in mind, we share the assessment of the US Embassy published yesterday on the formation of a new government in Montenegro - Felten concluded for the Standard portal.
We remind you that yesterday the US Embassy in Podgorica announced that ZBCG is not their partner and that their position on the formation of the Government has not changed.
We support the rapid formation of a government that is committed to Euro-Atlantic values and represents multicultural Montenegro. A government whose members would condemn Russian aggression, advocate for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and support EU sanctions against Russia, strengthen the active participation of Montenegro in NATO, protect the rights of minorities and support the sovereignty of neighboring countries, including Kosovo - said Pobjedi from the US Embassy .
